Wizz Air Grounds Fifth of Fleet for Mandatory Engine Inspections
Wizz Air is grounding approximately one-fifth of its fleet due to mandatory inspections on its Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines. The issue stems from a rare condition discovered in the powder metal used for certain engine components, requiring accelerated checks across the industry. The budget airline anticipates around 45 of its Airbus A320neo family aircraft will be affected by March 2024. This has resulted in flight cancellations and schedule adjustments for the carrier. Wizz Air is working to mitigate the impact and will receive financial compensation from the engine manufacturer for the disruption.
