Wizz Air Grounds Dozens of Jets Due to Pratt & Whitney Engine Flaw
Wizz Air is grounding approximately 45 of its aircraft due to a mandatory inspection of certain Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines. The issue stems from a rare condition in the powder metal used for high-pressure turbine discs. This grounding will lead to flight cancellations and a reduction in the airline's capacity over the next six to twelve months. Wizz Air is attempting to mitigate the impact by securing spare engines and extending existing aircraft leases. The engine problem is a global issue, affecting multiple airlines that operate the Airbus A320neo family of aircraft.
