Wizz Air Grounds Dozens of Aircraft Due to Pratt & Whitney Engine Flaw
Wizz Air has grounded approximately 40 aircraft following the discovery of a manufacturing flaw in their Pratt & Whitney GTF engines. The issue, caused by a contaminated powdered metal, necessitates premature and lengthy inspections for hundreds of planes globally. This has forced the airline to cancel a significant number of flights, leading to a noticeable drop in passenger traffic. Wizz Air has stated it expects financial compensation from the engine manufacturer to cover the operational disruption. To mitigate the impact, the carrier is extending leases on older jets and acquiring replacement aircraft.
