Wizz Air Grounds 45 Jets for Pratt & Whitney Engine Checks, Warns of Flight Reductions
Wizz Air is grounding 45 of its aircraft to conduct mandatory engine inspections. The issue stems from a manufacturing flaw in Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, which require checks for potential microscopic cracks. This rare powder metal defect affects thousands of engines globally. The airline anticipates a 10% reduction in flight capacity during the second half of the financial year as a result of the groundings. Wizz Air is evaluating the financial consequences and intends to seek compensation from the engine manufacturer.
