Wizz Air Grounds 45 Aircraft for Mandatory Pratt & Whitney Engine Inspections
Wizz Air has grounded approximately 45 of its aircraft, representing about one-fifth of its fleet, due to mandatory engine checks. The airline has been forced to make significant flight cancellations, particularly from its London Gatwick base. The issue stems from a problem with Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, which require accelerated inspections for a rare condition found in a powdered metal component. This is a widespread industry issue affecting numerous airlines that operate the Airbus A320neo family of aircraft. Wizz Air has stated it will seek financial compensation from the engine manufacturer for the disruption.
