Wizz Air Faces Major Financial Impact as Engine Flaw Grounds 45 Aircraft
Wizz Air is preparing to ground 45 of its aircraft due to a manufacturing flaw in Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines. The issue stems from a contaminated metal powder used for high-pressure turbine discs, requiring accelerated inspections. This global problem affects hundreds of Airbus A320neo family aircraft. The groundings are expected to begin in mid-January and will reduce the airline's capacity by 10% in the second half of its financial year. Wizz Air has stated it will seek financial compensation from Pratt & Whitney to offset the significant operational and financial disruption.
