Wizz Air Faces Grounding of 170 New Jets for Mandatory Engine Inspections
Wizz Air is set to ground approximately 170 of its new Airbus A320neo family aircraft for mandatory engine checks between 2024 and 2026. The issue stems from a powder metal defect discovered in Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, which power the jets. This global problem requires accelerated inspections, significantly impacting the airline's operational capacity. As a result of the disruption, Wizz Air has confirmed it is seeking financial compensation from the engine manufacturer. The groundings are part of a widespread issue affecting hundreds of aircraft at various airlines worldwide.
