Wizz Air Expects Cancellations as Engine Checks Ground 10% of Fleet
Wizz Air has announced it expects to ground 10% of its fleet in the first half of 2024 for mandatory engine inspections. The action is required for accelerated checks on Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines. A rare condition in the powder metal used to manufacture certain engine components has prompted the widespread inspections. Consequently, the airline has warned of potential flight cancellations to accommodate the required maintenance. Pratt & Whitney will provide compensation to the airline for the disruption.
