Whitaker Confirmed as FAA Administrator; RTX Announces New $3 Billion Charge for GTF Engine Issues

The U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed Michael Whitaker as the new permanent administrator of the FAA, filling a leadership position that has been vacant for over 18 months. In other major industry news, RTX announced it will take an additional $3 billion pre-tax charge in the fourth quarter related to the ongoing Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan (GTF) engine issues. This charge stems from compensation owed to airline customers affected by the fleet groundings. Separately, Australian carrier Qantas has confirmed an order for nine more Airbus A220-300 aircraft. Finally, Boom Supersonic is relocating its XB-1 supersonic demonstrator to the Mojave Air & Space Port for its first flight.
