Western Global Airlines Reactivates MD-11 Freighter, Following Industry Trend
Western Global Airlines is bringing one of its McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighters back into service after it was stored since August 2023. The aircraft was recently flown to a maintenance facility, signaling its imminent return to operations. This decision follows a similar move by FedEx, which also reactivated an MD-11 earlier this year. While the global trend has been to retire the aging tri-jet, these revivals suggest a potential increase in air cargo demand. FedEx remains the largest operator of the MD-11, with Western Global also holding a significant, though largely stored, fleet of the type.
