Volga-Dnepr An-124 Suffers Dual Engine Failure After Ingesting Runway Debris in Brazil
A Volga-Dnepr Airlines Antonov An-124 cargo aircraft experienced a serious incident following its departure from São Paulo, Brazil. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft suffered the failure of its No. 3 and No. 4 engines on the right wing. The crew immediately declared an emergency and initiated a return to the airport. The pilots successfully managed the situation, landing the massive aircraft safely approximately one hour after the event began. The subsequent investigation determined that the engine failures were caused by Foreign Object Damage (FOD) from a broken takeoff lights unit on the runway.
