USAF Prepares to Expand Stealth Bomber Fleet with B-21 Raider as B-2 Spirit Retirement Looms
The United States Air Force is undertaking a significant modernization of its stealth bomber capabilities by transitioning from the B-2 Spirit to the new B-21 Raider. While the current fleet numbers just 19 operational B-2s, the Pentagon plans to acquire a much larger force of at least 145 B-21s. This new sixth-generation aircraft is designed for long-range, deep-strike missions and features advanced stealth technology and a more adaptable open systems architecture. The introduction of the B-21 Raider will not only replace the aging B-2 but will substantially increase the size and lethality of America's strategic bomber fleet for the coming decades.
