US Special Operations Command Selects L3Harris' Sky Warden for Armed Overwatch Role
US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) has chosen the L3Harris AT-802U Sky Warden as its new light attack aircraft. The selection concludes the 'Armed Overwatch' program, which sought a cost-effective platform for close air support and reconnaissance in permissive environments. Based on the Air Tractor AT-802 agricultural aircraft, the rugged turboprop is designed for austere operations, supporting ground forces directly. The Sky Warden's role and name evoke the legacy of the historic A-1 Skyraider, famous for its durability and payload during the Vietnam War. AFSOC plans to acquire up to 75 of the aircraft to replace its U-28A Draco fleet.
