US Intelligence Assessment Forecasts Dangerous Spike in Global Missile Threats
A new U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report warns of a "dangerous new phase" in strategic competition, driven by escalating missile threats from China and Russia. The assessment highlights the rapid expansion and modernization of their respective arsenals, including hypersonic, anti-satellite, and advanced cruise missiles. China is projected to more than double its nuclear warhead stockpile by 2030, while Russia continues to develop new strategic systems like the Sarmat ICBM. These advancements are eroding arms control norms and present a significant challenge to U.S. and allied missile defense capabilities.
