US Department of Transportation Approves American Airlines' Request for Venezuela Flights
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has granted American Airlines the authority to resume flights to Venezuela. This approval is a crucial first step but does not signify an immediate restart of services. The carrier had applied for seven weekly frequencies, likely to connect Miami with Caracas. However, the resumption of actual flights remains contingent on the lifting of a separate FAA flight ban over Venezuelan airspace, which was imposed in 2019 due to safety and security concerns. Additionally, the Venezuelan government must also provide its own authorization for the services to commence.
