US Awards $1 Billion Contract for F-35 Electronic Warfare Fleet Upgrade
The US Department of Defense has awarded BAE Systems a contract worth nearly $1 billion for a significant electronic warfare retrofit. The upgrade involves the Block 4 version of the AN/ASQ-239 system for the F-35 Lightning II fighter jet. This advanced system is designed to enhance situational awareness and survivability against modern, complex threats. The contract covers retrofitting the EW suite for the US armed forces as well as foreign military operators of the F-35 aircraft. BAE Systems states the new technology will provide superior electronic countermeasures and detection capabilities.
