US Airlines Report Lower Fuel Consumption and Costs for January 2024
U.S. scheduled passenger airlines consumed 1.48 billion gallons of fuel in January 2024, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. This marked a 10.8% decrease from December 2023, though it was a slight 0.4% increase compared to January 2023. The cost per gallon of aviation fuel fell to $2.84, which is 1.8% lower than the previous month. This price also represents an 11.2% decrease from the cost in January of the prior year. The total fuel expenditure for the month was $4.2 billion, reflecting the changes in both consumption and price.
