US Air Force's Next-Gen Stealth Fighter Program Ahead of Schedule, Delivery Set for 2027
The U.S. Air Force's Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program is progressing ahead of its original schedule. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall confirmed that two of the advanced 6th-generation stealth aircraft are already in the flight-testing phase. The program, which aims to replace the aging F-22 Raptor, is now targeting its first operational delivery for 2027. This new platform is being developed as a "family of systems," which will include unmanned Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) drones controlled by the manned fighter. The accelerated timeline underscores the Pentagon's focus on maintaining air superiority over potential adversaries.
