US Air Force Revises Armament Strategy for HH-60W Jolly Green II Helicopter
The U.S. Air Force is changing its armament plans for the HH-60W Jolly Green II combat search-and-rescue helicopter. According to budget documents, the service has canceled the procurement of the GAU-18/A .50-caliber machine gun for the platform. Additionally, it has halted the integration of the 7.62mm GAU-21 guns. This decision is part of a broader strategy to standardize the helicopter's defensive weapons systems. The focus will now be on the existing GAU-2 Minigun and GAU-21 .50-caliber gun to simplify logistics and training across the fleet.
