US Air Force 'Loyal Wingman' Drone Crashes During Test Flight
The Kratos XQ-58A Valkyrie, a key drone in the US Air Force's 'Loyal Wingman' program, crashed during its third test flight. The experimental aircraft is being developed as a low-cost, autonomous partner for manned fighters like the F-35. Officials attribute the crash, which occurred during landing, to high surface winds and a malfunction with the provisional recovery system. The drone sustained substantial damage. Despite the incident, the Air Force Research Laboratory stated that all primary test objectives were successfully met before the mishap.
