United Pilot Received Multiple Low Altitude Warnings Before Striking Light at Newark
A United Airlines Boeing 757 struck a runway approach light while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport. According to a preliminary NTSB report, air traffic control repeatedly warned the pilot that the aircraft was "very low" and "slow" on its final approach. The controller issued a low altitude alert and instructed the crew to check their altitude immediately. Despite these warnings, the aircraft's landing gear hit a stanchion for the Runway End Identifier Lights. The flight from Denver landed safely, and none of the 166 people on board were injured.
