United Airlines VP Highlights 'Critical Capability Gap' Left by The Boeing 757
A top United Airlines executive has warned of a 'critical capability gap' in the aviation market that no modern aircraft can fill. According to Mike Leskinen, Senior VP of Finance, the aging Boeing 757 possesses a unique combination of range, capacity, and high-performance capabilities that is currently unmatched. This is particularly true for challenging routes from high-altitude airports like Denver or transatlantic flights from smaller East Coast hubs. Neither the Airbus A321neo nor the Boeing 737 MAX 10 can fully replicate the 757's mission profile. This leaves a significant 'hole in the marketplace' for a versatile, mid-range aircraft. While the upcoming A321XLR may address some range issues, the industry still lacks a true successor to the versatile 757.
