United Airlines Taps Illinois Refinery for Sustainable Aviation Fuel to Reduce Emissions
United Airlines is advancing its sustainability goals by sourcing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from a converted refinery in Illinois. The Phillips 66 facility in Wood River is transitioning to produce renewable fuels, including SAF, from feedstocks like used cooking oil and soybean oil. This partnership is a key part of United's strategy to reduce its carbon footprint. The refinery is expected to produce 800 million gallons of renewable fuel annually. United is already using the SAF produced here to power flights departing from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
