United Airlines Pilot Warned of Low Approach Before Boeing 767 Struck Runway Light at Newark
A United Airlines Boeing 767 struck a runway light pole while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport. The flight, arriving from São Paulo, was on a low and slow final approach when air traffic control issued multiple warnings. The controller instructed the pilots to perform a go-around, but the aircraft continued the landing. Subsequently, the plane's left wing made contact with the lighting structure. The aircraft landed without any injuries, but it was taken out of service for repairs as the FAA launched an investigation.
