United Airlines CEO Warns of Looming Jet Fuel Shortage Driven by SAF Demand
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has issued a warning about a potential jet fuel shortage and subsequent price spikes. Speaking at a Politico event, Kirby explained that the push for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is creating intense competition for biomass feedstocks like corn and soybeans. This demand is diverting resources previously used for renewable diesel, leading to a shortage in the diesel market. Because conventional jet fuel and diesel are produced from the same part of the oil barrel, a diesel shortage will inevitably impact jet fuel availability. Kirby stated that this issue could cause "real shortages" for the aviation industry.
