Union Pacific announced the passing of its former chairman, president, and CEO, Dick Davidson, at the age of 81. Davidson's career in the railroad industry began in 1960, and he eventually became CEO of Union Pacific in 1997. He is remembered for his critical leadership during the company's challenging integration of Southern Pacific. He was also named Railroader of the Year by Railway Age magazine in 2003. Current CEO Lance Fritz described him as a 'giant of our industry' who left a lasting legacy.
