UK's Hydrogen-Powered 'FlyZero' Jet Project Faces Uncertain Future
The UK's ambitious FlyZero project, a government-backed initiative to design a hydrogen-powered commercial jet, has stalled after its initial research phase. The project, led by the Aerospace Technology Institute, successfully produced three concept aircraft designs by March 2022. However, the expert team has since been disbanded, leading to significant concerns about the program's future. There is currently no clear government plan or funding to move from concept to a flying demonstrator. This lack of a follow-up strategy casts doubt on the UK's ability to maintain a leading role in developing zero-emission aviation technology.
