Ukraine Eyes Gripen Fighters and Meteor Missiles to Counter Russian Glide Bomb Threat
Ukraine is actively considering the acquisition of Swedish-made JAS 39 Gripen multi-role fighter jets to strengthen its air force. A key advantage of this aircraft is its compatibility with the advanced Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile. This combination would significantly enhance Ukraine's ability to engage Russian aircraft, particularly the Su-34 and Su-35 jets that launch guided bombs. By fielding the Gripen-Meteor system, Ukrainian forces aim to push these Russian bombers farther away from the front line. This would reduce the effectiveness of glide bomb attacks on Ukrainian positions and cities.
