UDOT Launches Electric Aircraft Test Flights for Future Statewide Air Network

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has initiated test flights of an all-electric aircraft, the Pipistrel Velis Electro, as part of its advanced air mobility (AAM) project. The goal is to collect crucial data on the aircraft's performance, range, and the charging infrastructure needed to support a future network. These test runs, from Spanish Fork to Price and Vernal, are a key step in UDOT's plan to connect rural and urban communities across the state. The project, in partnership with Utah State University, aims to assess the feasibility of using electric aircraft for services like package delivery and passenger transport. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to establish a sustainable and efficient transportation system connecting all of Utah's 84 cities.
