U.S. Space Force Activates Critical Polar Satellite Communication Payloads
The U.S. Space Force has formally declared two Enhanced Polar System-Recapitalization (EPS-R) payloads as operational. These payloads, built by Northrop Grumman, are hosted on satellites belonging to Norway and the Space Development Agency. They provide continuous, secure, and jam-resistant satellite communications for military forces operating in the strategic Arctic region. This activation closes a critical coverage gap for U.S. Northern Command and its allies. The system serves as a bridge until more advanced satellite networks are deployed in the future.
