Two Survive Small Plane Crash in Residential Area Near Crystal Airport

A single-engine plane crashed in a residential backyard in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, shortly after taking off from Crystal Airport. The pilot reported engine trouble and attempted to return to the airport but was unsuccessful. The aircraft, a Mooney M20, struck a power line and a fence before coming to rest. Both the pilot and a passenger survived the incident with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses on the ground reported hearing the plane's engine sputtering just before the crash.
