Thai Airlines Lobby Government for Jet Fuel Excise Tax Reduction
The Airlines Association of Thailand (AAT), which represents seven of the country's carriers, is formally requesting that the government reduce the excise tax on jet fuel. The association argues that the current tax rate of 4.726 baht per liter significantly increases operational costs for airlines. This financial pressure makes it difficult for carriers to lower airfares and stimulate the domestic tourism market. The AAT has proposed a temporary return to the previous rate of 0.20 baht per liter. This measure was previously in place to support the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic but was discontinued in July 2023.
