Sustainable Aviation Report: Greenhouse Gas Removal Essential for Net-Zero Target
A new report from the UK’s Sustainable Aviation coalition emphasizes that Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) alone is insufficient to meet the industry's 2050 net-zero emissions goal. The study advocates for a "twin-track" strategy, combining the rapid scale-up of SAF with the development of Greenhouse Gas Removal (GGR) technologies. These technologies, such as Direct Air Capture (DAC), are deemed essential to offset residual emissions that cannot be eliminated through other means. The coalition urges policymakers to create supportive frameworks to foster investment and growth in both SAF production and GGR solutions. This dual approach is presented as the only viable path for aviation to achieve its climate commitments.
