SunExpress Boeing 737 Returns to Stuttgart Following In-Flight Fume Event
A SunExpress Boeing 737-800, operating as flight XQ502, was forced to make an emergency return to Stuttgart Airport (STR) on March 20, 2024. The aircraft was en route to Izmir, Turkey, when the crew detected a strong smell of fumes in the cockpit and cabin. The pilots declared an emergency shortly after takeoff. The aircraft landed safely back in Stuttgart approximately 20 minutes after departure, and no injuries were reported. The flight was subsequently canceled following the incident.
