Soaring Air Freight Rates Cripple Bangladesh's Perishable Export Sector
Perishable goods exporters in Bangladesh are facing a severe crisis due to a sharp increase in air cargo rates. Freight charges to key markets in Europe and the Middle East have more than doubled, making their products uncompetitive internationally. The issue is primarily driven by limited cargo capacity from the national carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines. As a result, industry associations are urging the government to allow foreign airlines to operate more dedicated cargo flights. Without a swift solution, many exporters fear they will be forced out of the market.
