Sinkhole on LaGuardia Runway Causes Widespread Flight Cancellations and Delays
A sinkhole discovered on Runway 4-22 at New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA) on Saturday caused significant operational disruptions. The runway was immediately closed for emergency repairs, leading to a ground stop and a cascade of flight issues. Over 400 flights were delayed and more than 140 were canceled, impacting thousands of travelers. Maintenance crews from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey worked throughout the day to fix the pavement. The runway was successfully repaired and reopened later that same evening, allowing operations to gradually return to normal.
