Shetland Flights at Risk as Loganair Pilots Vote for Strike Action
Loganair pilots based at Sumburgh Airport in Shetland have overwhelmingly voted in favor of strike action. The dispute, led by the British Airline Pilots' Association (BALPA), centers on the airline's decision to hire a new pilot based in Shetland, which the union claims violates a long-standing agreement. This potential industrial action threatens to disrupt vital inter-island flights and services connecting the mainland to the outer isles. Flights supporting the regional oil and gas industry are also at risk. While Loganair states it followed a fair recruitment process, BALPA maintains the move undermines the careers of its members.
