Shetland Council to Decide Future of Lifeline Inter-Island Air Services
The Shetland Islands Council is set to select a new provider for its essential inter-island air services, which connect the mainland with the remote islands of Fair Isle, Foula, and Papa Stour. The crucial seven-year contract, starting in April 2025, is a contest between the incumbent operator, Loganair, and a new bidder, Airtask. These flights are considered a lifeline service, vital for transporting passengers, mail, and medical supplies. The council's transport committee will first make a recommendation before the full council makes the final decision on the contract, currently valued at £3.6 million per year.
