Senate Confirms J. Todd DeLeeuw to NTSB Over Democratic Objections

The U.S. Senate has confirmed J. Todd DeLeeuw to serve on the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in a narrow 50-49 vote. The confirmation was highly contentious, proceeding along party lines. Democrats, led by Senate Commerce Committee Chair Maria Cantwell, strongly opposed the nomination. They argued DeLeeuw's previous work representing aviation industry clients against NTSB safety recommendations created a significant conflict of interest. Republicans, however, defended his extensive aviation experience as a vital qualification for the position. DeLeeuw fills a Republican seat on the five-member board responsible for investigating transportation incidents.
