Schiphol Reports 5% Cargo Growth in Q1 Despite Regional Disruptions
Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport has reported a 5% increase in air cargo volume for the first quarter of 2024, reaching a total of 387,358 tonnes. This growth occurred despite significant disruptions in the Middle East, particularly the Red Sea crisis, which diverted some ocean freight to air transport. Inbound cargo saw a substantial rise of 9.3%, while outbound cargo experienced a modest increase of 0.5%. The Asian market was the primary driver of this growth with a 13.9% surge in volume, making it Schiphol's largest cargo market.
