SAS Inaugural India Flight Turns Back Mid-Air Due to Paperwork Error

Scandinavian Airlines' highly anticipated first flight to India in 17 years was forced to turn back to Copenhagen. The Airbus A350, operating as flight SK947 to Delhi, was denied entry into Azerbaijani airspace. According to reports, the turn-back was caused by a failure to submit the necessary overflight permit application in time. The aircraft had to reverse its course over the Caspian Sea, a significant distance into its journey. The embarrassing operational blunder resulted in the cancellation of the inaugural service.
