Ryanair CEO Slams New EU Carbon Levy on Aviation
Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has strongly criticized the European Union's updated carbon emissions tax for airlines. The new regulations under the Emissions Trading System (ETS) now require carriers to pay for 100% of their carbon output, removing previous free allowances. O'Leary argues this policy unfairly targets European short-haul flights and passengers, while exempting long-haul flights originating outside the EU. He labeled the measure an 'environmental fig leaf' that serves as a tax on European citizens rather than an effective climate solution.
