RTX's Collins Aerospace Begins Powertrain Testing for Clean Aviation Hybrid-Electric Project
RTX's Collins Aerospace has initiated testing on its 1-megawatt electric motor generator, a core component of its hybrid-electric powertrain system. This work is a crucial part of the European Union's Clean Aviation SWITCH project, aimed at developing next-generation sustainable aircraft technology. The project's goal is to significantly improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions for future regional aircraft. Testing is taking place at The Grid, Collins' advanced electric power systems lab in Rockford, Illinois. This milestone represents a key step forward in demonstrating the viability of hybrid-electric propulsion systems for commercial aviation.
