Rowan University Researchers Awarded $423K NSF Grant to Advance Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production
Researchers at Rowan University have been awarded a $423,737 grant from the National Science Foundation to advance the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Led by chemical engineering professors, the project aims to create a more energy-efficient and cost-effective method for creating biofuel. The team will use computer modeling to design a hybrid system that combines distillation and membrane separation to purify isobutanol from biomass. This research directly supports the aviation industry's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 by tackling the high cost of current SAF production methods.
