Rolls-Royce Confirms Permanent Fix for Trent 1000 Engine Issues, Profits Soar
Rolls-Royce has announced a permanent fix for the long-standing durability issues with its Trent 1000 engines, which power the Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. The problem involved high-pressure turbine blades cracking prematurely, leading to significant disruption and costs for airlines. The solution is a newly designed blade that is now being fitted to engines globally. This resolution coincides with the company reporting a significant financial turnaround, with underlying profits more than doubling to £1.6 billion in 2023. This strong performance is attributed to the recovery in long-haul air travel, which increases the flying hours and maintenance revenue for its engines.
