Rolls-Royce Calls for More Frequent Safety Checks on Boeing 787 Trent 1000 Engines
Rolls-Royce has requested that airlines increase the frequency of safety inspections on some of its Trent 1000 engines, which power the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The issue concerns certain turbine blades that are wearing out more quickly than initially anticipated. This precautionary measure has been formalized by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) through a new airworthiness directive. Rolls-Royce confirmed it is actively developing a redesigned blade to provide a long-term solution. The ongoing problem has already cost the company more than £2 billion in related expenses.
