Rolls-Royce and easyJet Achieve World First with Hydrogen-Powered Aero Engine Test

Rolls-Royce and easyJet have successfully conducted the world's first ground test of a modern aero engine powered by green hydrogen. The test, utilizing a converted AE 2100-A engine, took place at the MoD Boscombe Down facility in the UK. The green hydrogen was generated using renewable wind and tidal power in Orkney, Scotland. This milestone is a critical proof-of-concept in the companies' joint strategy to decarbonize aviation. The success paves the way for more complex tests, including a future ground test of a Pearl 15 jet engine.
