Revisiting the 1989 Air Canada DC-9 Collision With a Snowplow at LaGuardia

In February 1989, an Air Canada DC-9 preparing for takeoff at New York's LaGuardia Airport collided with a snowplow on the runway. The aircraft, operating as Flight 353 to Toronto, was accelerating for departure when the unauthorized vehicle crossed its path. The pilots managed to abort the takeoff, but the impact was severe. Tragically, the snowplow operator was killed in the collision. All 65 passengers and crew aboard the aircraft survived the incident. The subsequent NTSB investigation cited the unauthorized runway incursion by the snowplow as the primary cause of the accident.
