Remembering the Tragic 1965 Crash of Eastern Air Lines Flight 663

On February 8, 1965, Eastern Air Lines Flight 663 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean shortly after departing from New York's JFK Airport. The Douglas DC-7B aircraft was bound for Richmond, Virginia, when it went down. Tragically, all 84 people on board, including 79 passengers and five crew members, were killed in the accident. The official investigation concluded that the probable cause was spatial disorientation. The crew likely lost their visual reference points while flying over the dark ocean, leading to a misreading of their instruments and a fatal descent.
