Regional Conflict Costs Middle East Air Cargo Sector Over $1 Billion

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has resulted in over $1 billion in lost air cargo revenue for the region's airports, according to ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East. This substantial financial loss is equivalent to approximately 230,000 tonnes of cargo. The impact stems from widespread route disruptions and airspace closures, which force carriers to operate longer and more expensive flights. These challenges have affected both dedicated cargo planes and the belly-hold capacity of passenger aircraft. While the Red Sea shipping crisis has shifted some freight to the air, it has not been enough to offset the direct negative impacts of the conflict on aviation.
